How did you get started in the trade and when was it?
I fell into the job really, I was seeking work in 2000 and thought its something different, I’m a hands-on guy, done several different types of work, a sparkies mate, worked in a car factory, grounds work, labouring and roofing. I applied for the job along with 32 others and thought as my grandad was a steeplejack my other grandad was in the fire service its all in the blood really so meant to be, I got offered the job of stove installing and sweeping so took up the new challenge. Progressed on from serving 10+ years with the firm then moved onto gaining full HETAS training to become an installer, followed by joining a sweeping guild worked myself up to the highest level possible within the guild and then went onto become an approved sweep with HETAS. I then started my own business in 2011 and haven’t looked back since. I’ve continued progressing and have achieved Sweep Safe Assessor and Trainer status aswell.
